Gnathothlibus erotus (Sphingidae)
Gnathothlibus erotus Cramer, 1777 (Sphingidae, Macroglossinae). White-browed Hawk Moth, . First Moth Night at Lyrebird Sanctuary using the new Light Trap set up on the western deck. Caterpillars feed on the Urticaceae. Occurs in Australasia including PNG and Queensland. Hawk Moths are built for speed. Tapered bodies with powerful flight muscles in the thorax and long, narrow forewings and much smaller hind wings. The can fly fast and far and expertly hover (CSIRO blog). Wingspan up to 70mm. Found in Australia, New Caledonia and Vanuatu.
